Emily Dickinson-Biography
The beautiful poet Emily Dickinson but her whole name is Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830. She was an American poet, born at the family’s homestead in Amherst, Massachusetts. She comes from a family of five herself, Edward Dickinson (Father), Emily Norcross Dickinson (Mother), William Austin Dickinson (Brother), and Lavinia Norcross Dickinson(Sister). Emily was a well behaved girl her aunt noticed her affinity for music and the piano, which she called “moosic”.
Emily spent seven teenage years at the academy, taking classes in English and classical literature, botany, Latin, geology, history, mental philosophy, and arithmetic. She was a very bright and excellent scholar student even though she had a few terms, due to illness, she was only enrolled for eleven weeks but she still enjoyed her studies and writing.
During the summer of 1858, she started to put in her script books. She made good copies of her poems on fine quality fixed and then sewed small bunch of these sheets together at the fold. In the next seven years she created 40 booklets and several unattached sheaves, and altogether they all had about 800 poems. She sent poems to her friends, but more to her sister in law Susan Gilbert Dickinson.
She received an award called The Emily Dickinson book award but she really didn’t receive any awards when she was alive because most of her writing were published when she died.
Emily Dickinson died on May 15, 1886 at age 55. Dickinson’s chief physician gave the cause of her death as bright’s disease, she was buried in all white. Before her death during the summer she saw “a great darkness coming” she was in her kitchen and then she fainted while baking, she was unconscious, other symptoms followed her illness, she was in bed for a few months. She still tried to send a final amount of letters in the spring to her lovely cousins. Several days went by and symptoms of her getting worse appeared to become worse.

Speak
I think the author’s purpose for writing this book is to inform readers on how staying quit and not speaking up causes depression and madness. Also writes it because the author wants to let us readers know how she was treated and how she felt and things that depression and madness leads too .
The intended audience is young people between the age of 14-17 (high school students) because it’s about a girl that is 14 and how she faces her freshmen year.
I rate this book – 10
The character that changed the most from beginning to end is Melinda Sordino the main character. she changed the most because at the beginning she was okay didn’t have any problems the only thing was that her friends from her middle school year would ignore her , but then when she goes to this party things go to far with this boy named Andy Evans , he takes her to a secluded part of the woods and rapes her ,she calls 911 and the police break up the party for underage drinking, arresting some of the kids. she becomes very depress and doesn’t tell nobody what happen to her , but all her so called friends and goers are angry with her for getting them in trouble so they start ostracizing her once school starts. so months past by and she hides and skips school alot , but the end of the year is closer and she was doing this project for art class and gets an A+. As the student body hears the story and realizes the truth about what happened at the party, Melinda goes from social pariah to something of a hero , Mr. Freeman prompts her to tell him her story, finally helping Melinda to get past the party and move on with her life.

The Last Song
Nicholas Sparks
I think the author’s purpose in writing this book was to tell us about the life of Ronnie Miler, the main character in the book and how she struggled with robbery and dealing with her father leaving. It’s a story about her first love and forgiveness towards her father and her passion for playing the piano.
I think that the intended audience for this book is a people that like reading love stories and the struggles that people face towards their relationship towards one another and things like that actually happen here in the real world.

The person that changed the most from the beginning to the end of the book is Ronnie Miller. At the beginning of the book she was a nice friendly girl that didn’t care about anything, she was a rebel and hated her dad. Her mom took her to her dad’s over the summer and that’s when she started to change and started growing feelings towards Will. She stopped playing the piano because it reminded her of her father. Her father was diagnosed with cancer but Ronnie didn’t know that , and when she found out she felt horrible because she treated him very badly. After her father died she started to play the piano again and went to Julliard and came together with her love William .
Written Response to “Bullied”
1. My reaction to the film, “Bullied” was that everything that happen to him (Jamie Nabozny) was unfair , he was discriminated for being different which was being gay, but that still didn’t give them the right to beat him up and call him bad names. I was very upset because he told his principal and the vice principal what was going on and they didn’t do anything to change it. Towards the end i was very relief because he was at court and his case was solved they weren’t allowed to put their hands on him anymore and the principal got in trouble too for not keeping the school at a safe and learning environment. so now him and his family live a happy ,stress free life !
2. Jamie Nabozny’s experiences kind of remind me of a moment in my life but the bullying wasn’t being done to me it was being done to one of my friends in elementary school. he was being bullied because he wasn’t as bight as the other students, so kids would pick on him by hitting him and call him bad names everyday. so i thought that they were being mean and i decided to help him with his work and keep the bullies away from him and one day they were jumpng him so i ran up to them and pushed them out the way and said “all of you guys are so mean horrible people and you all deserve to get punished and i slapped one of them and took my friend to the nurse and from there we went to the principal office and told them what happen and they apologized . then he was very thankful of me for helping him , and no i do not see bulling here at FLC , i see everybody being cool and friendly with one another.
3. If there is bulling here at FLC we should have solutions like if you feel threaten then talk to your teacher and see what can he/she do to help you, if your getting beat up during school and after then report it to the principal and your parents, and if people are calling you bad very bad names talk to your counselor so she can give you advice.
Poetry From Night
Rather unsentimental man
there was never
any display of emotion
i don’t know why
but after that day i saw
him often he had notice me one day at dusk
he asked ” why do you weep when you pray ?”
i answered greatly disturbed
“something inside me that felt the need for tears”
he replied “man raises himself
toward God by the questions he asks him”
every human being has his own gate
but have to remember
“not to learn it by heart , but
to extract the divine essence from it .

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Sherman Alexie
i think the author’s purpose for writing this book was because he probably wanted his readers to see that trying to be different is no problem, even if that means doing something nobody in your culture has done before or even losing your best friend.
The intended audience for this book is students that are in high school because it’s about a kid that is in high school and it’s his first year in a all white school, so he feels out of place but he stays there to prove to his people that he can make it far and become something huge in life.
i rate this book a 10
The character that changed the most from beginning to end was Arnold Spirit, Jr. (known as “Junior”). He changed the most because in the beginning his feelings were not bad he was happy to be best friends with rowdy ( the toughest guy in reservation) and his life at home was not so bad. Then when the first day of high school starts his feelings change a little bit, gets the feeling that his hopes and enthusiasm have been crushed because his teacher Mr.P hands out these old text books that his mother back in the days use to use in high school also thinks that Spokane reservation is so poor as to be unable to afford new textbooks, so Arnold violently throws the book, which ends up colliding with Mr. P. So then a week later his teacher Mr.P visits him at the front of his porch, they have a long conversation. Mr. P’s suggested that he leave the reservation, “You can’t give up. You won’t give up. You threw that book in my face because somewhere inside, you refuse to give up. So Arnold decides to transfer to Reardan-the school full of rich white kids in the countryside. Though Arnold’s mother is an ex-drunk and his father a drunk, they do not wish their children end up like them and, like Mr. P, believe that there is hope for Arnold off the reservation; thus they allow him to transfer to Reardan’s high school. Arnold’s decision brings harsh criticism and violence from Rowdy, who declares Arnold a “white lover” and attacks him. So Then Arnold Feels Very Bad For Leaving His Best Friend and tries to talk to Rowdy and convince him to transfer to Reardan high school but he refuses to go. On Arnold’s first day of Reardan high school he feels weird because he is the only indian in that high school. So lately he feels sad, out of place, forgotten, and different because now he is meeting new people, his best friend treats him bad now, his indian people thinks of him as a trader. So at the end he becomes very important to the white people but also loses two family members and a family friend but still tries to become something good in his life and not end up like his fellow indians. So I’ll say he changed from happy to sad to successful because he actually accomplished what he wanted, and that as to e different and have a better life.
Where I’m From Poem.
I’m From Where …….
I’m from shopping til i drop

to eating rice and chicken for lunch
to eating mofongo for dinner

and friends we cook out at the park
i’m from where mangu is are favorite dish
i’m from where the saying “dios te bendiga” means alot
the sacrafices my father made for me and my brother
so we can succeed in life
from where spending time with my family means
going out to the “playa” or “La Disco” At 1:00 in The Morning just to drink and dance until we can;t get down nomore
i’m from where the tropical sun heats up in the day and
the rain cools down the night
i’m from where nature is beautiful and enjoyable to
clubing all night long
in my closet was a case spilling memories of moments
long gone i’m from where those moments that still live in me.
